October 27th - October 31st

Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th
– Julie Andrews.

In writers workshop we are starting a brand new unit called Lab Reports. In this unit, students will learn “experiment write-up”. They will question, experiment, make a hypothesis (guess) and will actually do the experiment using materials and find results. Then they will compare their hypothesis and result to arrive at a conclusion about what they learned. This week, we're going to take a look at books of scientific writers and study the books that have been written and taking note of what the author has done in the book that we can do as well.

In reading workshop, we are doing reading assessments this week to wrap up our first unit. Questions that we may be asking students are:
  • Who is the main character in the story?
  • What is the problem in the story?
  • How did the main character solve the problem?
  • What is happening in this picture? How did the picture and the text help you understand the
  • How did the picture and the text help you understand the setting?
In math, we are reviewing and finishing up unit 3 and will be having our unit 3 math assessment on Wednesday, October 30th.

In our Social Studies unit of ‘Time, Continuity and Change’ students will continue to explore the differences between past, present and future artifacts.

In STEM, students will be exploring different liquids and understand the different properties in liquids.

Welcome to 2B!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Grade 2B's Blog!

This is our classroom:

My name is Hanna. This is my third year of teaching at MLS and second year teaching Grade 2. I love being at MLS and enjoy being part of this wonderful school family. I look forward to working with you to ensure a smooth and wonderful year.

Just a few quick notes I would like to share about the upcoming year.

First, our school follows a 6-day cycle, which means that your child’s specialist schedule will rotate according to the day (i.e. Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc.) not the day of the week.
Second, this is the place where you will be getting regular updates about happenings in the classroom, homework, upcoming events etc. I will be sharing student work here, I will also share tips and ideas how to help your child with the current Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and STEM topics.
There are tabs for calendar - schedule, curriculum, lunch menu, extended activity, conscious discipline etc. Please be sure to bookmark the blog so you can find it easily. Each week I will update the blog and let you know what is happening in our room. Be sure to check it out so you know what we are learning in 2B.

We had a great first two weeks of school. My students seem very comfortable in their new environment and with their new teachers! First week was spent getting to know each other, I was able assess the student's reading levels, basic math skills. We have been able to establish rules and commitments towards making Grade 2B a fun learning experience!

The school has provided us with some wonderful resources such as RAZkids and IXL. I will be updating you about what we will be learning in class. Math homework will be from IXL. Reading at least one book from RAZkids and doing the quiz will also be part of the homework. There are many interesting websites that have been posted under the ‘Extend Your Learning’ tab. Please check this tab for any extra work that you would want your child to do.
Please send your child with a healthy snack and BIG bottle of water so that they have the energy they need to concentrate and make it to the end of the school day.

The school timing are from 7:25 AM to 2:35 PM. Please be on time when dropping your child off at school as well as picking them up.

If you need to contact me, please feel free to email me anytime at grade2.b@mls.com.sa
