Writing
In Writing Workshop, grade 2 will start a new unit in which they will learn about the different styles of poetry:
- Acrostic
- Limerick
- Haiku
They will investigate how poets see things with their hearts and minds, how they write about the world in fresh unusual ways, break up their lines, read the poem aloud after each try until the poem is written in a way that sounds just right.
Reading
In Reading Workshop, the week is dedicated to guided reading sessions in book clubs. We will be sending these books home for your child to read the assigned chapters. Make sure to ask them to retell the story to you after they read.
Math
In Math, students will be exploring fractions. They will learn to:
- Use manipulatives to model different fractions, such as ½ , ¼ , ⅛
- Divide shapes into equal parts.
- Write fractions to name equal parts
STEM
In STEM, students will be assessed on the unit, ‘Pebbles, Sand and Silt’
Happy learning!
